Non Destructive Testing (NDT)

This is a set of techniques for testing a part without destroying it and assess its suitability for proper operation, without altering its service order. Non-destructive inspection reveals any defects that could affect the availability, job security, and compliance of the product. CND used in particular to research default weld controls, thickness measurements, research of erosion and corrosion, etc.

In predictive maintenance, the CND allows considerable savings by avoiding the replacement of non-defective parts and unplanned outages for repair activities.

NDT of a product can be made at 3 different stages of its life cycle:

  • Upstream of any manufacturing :

The aim is to ensure that technocal aspects of the product are well in line with the specifications. The main important in this demarch is to treat it as a procedure.

  • During manufacturing :

NDT then takes a control tool role on a production line.

  • During its use :

NDT is performed during maintenance or following detection of hardware behavioral anomalies.

Different non-destructive testing methods on the market :

  • MT: Magnetic particle Testing
  • RT: Radiographic Testing
  • PT: Penetrant Testing
  • UT: Ultrasonic Testing
  • ET: Electromagnetic Testing
